    I am new to networking and used to nmap to scan port. But i got and error saying

    NSE: Loaded 30 scripts for scanning.

    Initiating Ping Scan at 23:18

    dnet: Failed to open device eth11

    QUITTING!

    I am using a dongle :) . Is there something like dongles cant listen to ports? this doubt just hit me :) .

    @David I am so sorry david for late reply.

    I am running vista home premium 32bit.

    Hey david now i am reading chapter 7 netbios, i used angry IP scanner to scan and i liked that application alot :) . But when i run nbtstat on the target machine i get host not found, even when i try it on my on machine when printer sharing is on and firewall and virus guard is off.

    Sorry for putting some questions not related to the above topic, do you have any other forum or something where i can ask my silly questions :) . I have chosen you has my master so so i will be asking many questions :( , so plz help this script kiddy :) .

      @Zain, read the responses to this persons problem, http://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2009/q2/828, you might have the same solution.

      So you are trying to use the netbios command on your own computer thats on your network? are you using the main ip or the router assigned ips?

    thankx for the response david, my netbios problem was solved i did some silly mistakes. But the still got problem with the nmap, my before problem of getting this error :-

    NSE: Loaded 30 scripts for scanning.
    Initiating Ping Scan at 23:18
    dnet: Failed to open device eth11
    QUITTING!

    is over, like said in that forum i ran the program as administrator. But now i get this error :-

    WARNING: Using raw sockets because ppp2 is not an ethernet device. This probably won’t work on Windows.
    pcap_open_live(ppp2, 100, 0, 2) FAILED.

    Thankx once again david for taking your time to reply, i ma trying to find a solution i will let you know, but if you can plz help.
