Learn how to hack!

Learn how to hack even if you're starting today!

You have a choice little one. To be a poo-poo pounded legit hacker. Or just a legit hacker. What separates the two? – The right hacking environment.

To become a good hacker, actually, to actually learn how to hack in general, one must practice what he learns. And to practice hacking without the risk of getting in trouble with the authorities and ending up in a bad place (thus the poo-poo pound reference) one must practice in a safe environment. Otherwise known as a Hacker Lab.

In the video below, I show you how to set one up, and give you a tour of my own personal set up. A must watch. Watch now. Now!

Hi, I’m very interested in Linux but Im a Super Newbie and I’m having trouble deciding on the right distribution for me (Havent you heard this a million times?) anyway here is my problem, I need a distribution that can switch between reading and writing in English and Japanese (Japanese Language Support) with out restarting the operating system.

Emily, I’m pretty sure you can choose the Japanese Language when installing the OS. If you would like an easy install just to start playing around with it, I would choose Ubuntu.. very easy to use.

David, I’m a big fan! I’ve enjoyed your emails (crackercast) so much! I am very surprised at how young you sound! (You’ve probably heard this before…) You seem very experienced in security, and being that you have experience in multiple OS’s I always assumed you were at least my (undisclosed) age. Anyway, keep up the good work, I will continue to enjoy your broadcasts! As far as the hacker-lab info goes, I was hoping that you would divulge more information than just the hardware and operating systems…such as programs and versions on said OS’s. What are your typical targets in your own lab? Do you use over the shelf products like the hackme series, or do you download apps that have vulnerabilities listed on milworm? I guess that sums up my main issue: I have many tools, as well as a functional lab, but how do YOU choose a target?

ulcimd1, thanks :-) , I’m glad you’re enjoying them. I don’t do anything special… To practice things, I’ve installed and used DVL (www.damnvulnerablelinux.org), Moth for web app security, I’ve also used http://www.oldapps.com to setup my own test labs. In the end my favorite way to learn is to map out and replicate a network and see if and how I can get in.

Hey Brittany, I’m not sure what the song is lol, it’s some random piece I found online :p. You could ask around, see if anyone has old computers they are throwing out, tag sales during the summer.. many ways.
