Greatest hacker movies of all time.
In my opinion, which is pretty much all that matters, the greatest hacker films of all time are listed below. Nowadays, almost every watchable action film has at least one scene where a hacker does his thang. You may have noticed a pattern in most of these films, hackers are criminals. As all of you know most hackers are not criminals, but curious hippies. It’s to bad today’s youth spends more time watching and believing TV then their own teachers and school. That’s why you see hacker’s these days receiving 70 years in jail for the most retarded things ever, when there are child molesters getting almost nothing. Damn you gypsy magic doers! Anyways before I get any more side-tracked…
Tron (1982) – A hacker is literally abducted into the world of a computer and forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape is with the help of a heroic security program.

The Net (1995) - Angela Bennett’’s a software engineer type who works from home and has few friends outside of cyberspace. Taking her first vacation in years she becomes embroiled in a web (sic) of computer espionage.

GoldenEye (1995) – James Bond teams up with the lone survivor of a destroyed Russian research center to stop the hijacking of a nuclear space weapon by a fellow agent believed to be dead.

Ghost in the Shell (1995) – A female cyborg cop and her partner hunt a mysterious and powerful hacker called the Puppet Master.

Enemy of the State (1998) – A lawyer becomes a target by a corrupt politician and his NSA goons when he accidentally receives key evidence to a serious politically motivated crime.

23 (1998) – The movie’’s plot is based on the true story of a group of young computer hackers from Hannover, Germany.

Pirates of the Silicon Valley (1999) – This film is the semi-humorous documentary about the men who made the world of technology what it is today, their struggles during college, the founding of their companies, and the ingenious actions they took to build up the global corporate empires of Apple Computer Corporation and Microsoft Inc.

The Matrix (1999) – A computer hacker learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against the controllers of it.

Takedown (2000) – This film is based on the story of the capture of computer hacker “Kevin Mitnick”.

Antitrust (2001) - A computer programmer’’s dream job at a hot Portland-based firm turns nightmarish when he discovers his boss has a secret and ruthless means of dispatching anti-trust problems.

Freedom Downtime (2001) – A feature length documentary about the Free Kevin movement and the hacker world.

Revolution OS (2001) – The inside story of the hackers who rebelled against the proprietary software model and Microsoft to create GNU/Linux and the Open Source movement.

Code Hunter (2002) – America’’s best player is being pulled in to the ultimate cyber-terror. The game’’s mastermind has stolen his identity, put him on the FBI’’s Most Wanted List, and is blackmailing him to take a part in a real twisted plan of world destruction. With just hours left, can the code be broken to save the world from total annihilation?

Nicotina (2003) – A real-time dark comedy about a science geek who tangles with a clutch of Russian gangsters after he delivers them the wrong computer disk.

The Italian Job (2003) - Based on a 1969 Michael Caine film of the same name, thieves plan to pull of the heist of their lives by creating Los Angeles largest traffic jam ever

Live Free or Die Hard 4 (2007) – John McClane takes on an Internet-based terrorist organization who is systematically shutting down the United States.

I think that “Die Hard 4.0″ together with “Matrix” and
all together a pretty nice collection!
“Revolution OS” should be closer to the top…
and “War games the dead code” should be removed!!!
I HATE THAT MOVIE!!! the whole mobile phone intercept together with the plot SUCKS!
And in “swordfish” look at how he makes the worm… THAT IS SO BAD!!! his is putting boxes together… heh
But thats just my opinion…
Yah, some of them might not be so good haha, but they still had some sort of hacking in them so I included them in the list. Also they aren’t in order from best to worst but from old to new.
the only two movies there that are good and I cant find one of them anywhere on the web… (23) now that sounds like a real hacker story.
